I saw a ad today for a JD900 HC that has only 86 hours on it and has never worked in a field. I have seen pictures of one before and it looks like it would be very handy, Are these tractors common? How many were made. this is the first one that I have seen for sale.

Never seen one, this isn't JD country, but the used tractor price guide lists JD 900HC 1988-1990 about $6000-$8600 depending on condition and year; 78 cu. in. Yanmar engine; 22 PTO HP, 1876 lbs; apparently 2wd only. Sounds interesting!

I haven't been able to find how many were built , but I would venture to say the numbers were pretty small. The dealer I work for only sold three of these when they were built. They are a very handy tractor especially for cultivating and gardening type work. The offset design allowed excellent visibility for cultivating work. The drivetrain was basically the same as the 950 models which are widely known as excellent tractors. They were only offered in 2wd . ....
